LagunaVerde: A Unique Residential House Design by Jan Ham

Award-winning design that seamlessly integrates spaces and enhances natural light

After the kitchen has been opened to a semi-open style and then separated by a glass door, it adds extra daylight to the room, while indirectly integrating the kitchen space into the living room, providing visitors with extra poly feet and giving another life. The route, from the kitchen through the corridor, does not interfere with the family watching TV. From the kitchen can always look into the study room in the bedroom area, and the visual space is much improved.

LagunaVerde, a residential house designed by Jan Ham, stands out with its innovative approach to space integration and natural light enhancement. With a saleable area of 1091 sq.ft, this design showcases a concise yet elegant layout, combining different floor materials to clearly separate the two halls. The walls and cabinets are adorned with snow dolomite texture, cloth color, and floral lines, complemented by gold accents for a touch of luxury.

The design of LagunaVerde prioritizes functionality and aesthetics, creating a harmonious living environment. The kitchen, which has been opened to a semi-open style and separated by a glass door, allows for extra daylight to flood the room. This integration of the kitchen space into the living room provides visitors with a sense of openness and adds a new dimension to the overall design. The strategic placement of the corridor ensures that it does not interfere with the family's TV viewing experience.

One of the standout features of LagunaVerde is the seamless connection between different areas of the house. From the kitchen, one can always look into the study room in the bedroom area, enhancing the visual space and creating a sense of continuity throughout the house. The corridor has been moved to the right window sill, dividing the space into a porch and a bedroom. The porch, separated by a glass door, offers increased flexibility, allowing the space to be extended to the corridor or used as a cozy sitting area.

The design of LagunaVerde was realized using a combination of high-quality materials and advanced technology. The main building materials include iron, mud brick, wood, formica, and vinyl tile. The furniture was provided by Massive Dynamic Interior Design Ltd., while the wallpaper was sourced from Tat Ming Wallpaper. Nippon Paint was used for the walls, and the floor material was supplied by R&B. The AV equipment features top brands such as Bose and Sony.

Jan Ham, the chief designer of LagunaVerde, led a talented team that included designer Suen On Tin. Their meticulous attention to detail and creative problem-solving skills allowed them to overcome challenges, such as integrating the corridors near the window, resulting in a design that is both functional and visually stunning.

The LagunaVerde project started in September 2020 and was completed in January 2021. Throughout the design process, the team conducted extensive research, utilizing Environmental Design Studies (EDS) to optimize various aspects of the project. Cross ventilation was incorporated into the common and private areas by capitalizing on the design of the corridors.

LagunaVerde has received recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2022. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and technical excellence. The design of LagunaVerde showcases the best practices in art, science, design, and technology, contributing to improvements in quality of life and making the world a better place.
